Abstract Objective: To explore curative effect of pefloxacin combined with minocycline hydrochloride on periodontitis patients. Methods: During the period from July 2016 to July 2019, 90 periodontitis admitted to the hospital were enrolled as objects. They were divided into single medication group and combination medication group according to random number table method, 45 cases in each group. The two groups were treated with minocycline hydrochlorid or pefloxacin combined with minocycline hydrochloride, respectively. The curative effect, changes in early periodontal indexes before and after treatment and level of gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) related indexes, incidence of adverse reactions and recurrence rate were compared between the two groups. Results: The total response rate of treatment in combination medication group was higher than that in single medication group (93.33% vs75.56%, P<0.05). After treatment, depth of periodontal pocket, plaque index, clinical attachment loss and gingival index in both groups were significantly improved (P<0.05). The above early periodontal indexes in combination medication group were significantly lower than those in single medication group (P<0.05). After treatment, GCF related indexes such as IL-1β, sICAM-1, osteocalcin and MCP-1 in both groups were decreased (P<0.05). The all GCF indexes in combination medication group were significantly lower than those in single medication group (P<0.05. The incidence of adverse reactions and recurrence rate in combination medication group were lower than those in single medication group. There was no significant difference in incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (17.78% vs28.89%, P>0.05), while there were significant differences in recurrence rate (2.22% vs20.00%, P<0.05). Conclusion: The curative effect of pefloxacin combined with minocycline hydrochloride is significant on periodontitis, which can significantly improve levels of early periodontal indexes and osteocalcin in GCF. And safety is good.
