Abstract  Objective: To investigate the inhibitory effect of baicalin on the growth of esophageal cancer cells andrelated mechanism. Methods: ECA109 human esophageal cancer cell line was used for in vitro experiments, cultured cells were treated by thedifferentconcentration of baicalin groups andcontrol group. Cell proliferation was determined by MTT.TUNEL assay was used to determine the effect of baicalin on apoptosis of esophageal cancer cells. The expressions of cIAP- 1 and BAD were detected by Western Blot after adding baicalin 0, 6, 12, 24, 48h. Results: Baicalin was found to significantly inhibit the proliferation of ECA109 cells in a dose and time dependent manner.TUNEL experimental Results showed that compared with the control group, the apoptosis rate of baicalin group was significantly increased (P<0.05). The expression of cIAP- 1 was significantly decreased along with the time after adding baicalin, while Bad expression was increased (P<0.05). Conclusion: Baicalin can inhibit the proliferation and promote the apoptosis of esophageal cancer cells ECA109, and its mechanism may be related to the up-regulation of Bad protein expression and the inhibition of cIAP-1 protein expression.
