Abstract Objective: To investigate effect of Xiaoer Chai GuiTuire granule on symptoms and serum lgA and lgM in children with herpangina. Methods: 50 cases of herpangina with accumulated heat in spleen and stomach type treated in our hospital from May 2016 to November 2017 were selected and divided into two groups according to the different treatment methods, each with 25 cases. The control group received the routine western medicine, while the treatment group received the Xiaoer Chai GuiTuire granule combined with western medicine. Then the TCM syndrome scores, clinical symptoms, immunoglobulin A (lgA) and immunoglobulin M (lgM) levels, clinical efficacy and adverse reactions were determined. Results: TCM syndrome scores had no difference before treatment (Z=-1.084, P>0.05), which were lower in the treatment group than in the control group after treatment (P<0.05). The improvement of clinical symptoms in the treatment group was significantly better than that in the control group (P<0.05). The levels of IgA and IgM had no difference before treatment (P>0.05), which were increased after treatment, and were higher in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.05). The clinical efficacy of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group (96.00% vs 68.00%; χ2=6.640, P<0.05). The incidence rate of the adverse reaction in the treatment group was lower than that of the control group (4.00% vs 28.00%, χ2=5.357, P<0.05). Conclusion: The application of Xiaoer Chai GuiTuire granule is an effective and safe way to alleviate the various TCM symptoms, improve the lgA and lgM levels for children with herpangina, which is worthy of promotion.
