| Relationship between Serum FGF21 Level and Serum Thyroid Hormone Levels and Bone Metabolic Parameters in Patients with Abnormal Thyroid Function |

Abstract Objective: To investigate the level of serum FGF21 in patients with abnormal thyroid function, so as to discuss the relationship between FGF21 and thyroid hormones and bone metabolism. Methods: 64 hyperthyroid patients (hyperthyroidism group), 31 hypothyroid cases (hypothyroidism group) and 57 healthy controls (control group) were recruited in this investigation. FT3, FT4, TSH, ALP, FGF21, and BGP were detected. Results: Compared with the control group, FT3, FT4, OPN, TRACP, BALP, BGP, β-CTX decreased, while increased in hyperthyroidism group, meanwhile, TSH and FGF21 increased in hypothyroidism group and decreased in hyperthyroidism group, the differences were statistically significant (F=336.60, 278.79, 72.32, 47.95, 22.71, 283.51, 17.54, 19.22, 19.91, P<0.05); FGF21 in three groups negatively correlated with OPN, TRACP, BALP, BGP and β-CTX (r=-0.531, -0.614, -0.346, -0.425, -0.391, -0.412, -0.406, -0.316, -0.346, -0.298, - 0.528, -0.606, -0.391, -0.447, -0.385, P<0.05). Conclusion: In patients with hyperthyroidism, the increased serum levels of FT3, FT4 and decreased level of TSH make the FGF21 significantly inhibited, resulting in an increase in the expression of bone metabolism index and the loss of bone mass. The above index in patients with hypothyroidism is the opposite.
