Abstract Objective: To study the effect of aripiprazole combined with olanzapine on the clinical efficacy, glucose and lipid metabolism of elderly schizophrenic patients. Methods: 120 patients with schizophrenia admitted to our hospital from January 2016 to February 2018 were selected as the research objects, and divided into the control group (60 cases) and the observation group (60 cases) according to the random number table. They were treated for eight weeks. Patients in both groups were given conventional psychiatric medication, while those in the control group were supplemented with aripiprazole on the basis of conventional treatment. The initial dose was set at 10~20 mg, and the dosage was adjusted according to the actual condition of patients. The observation group was supplemented with olanzapine on the basis of treatment of the control group and the starting dose was set at 10~20 mg. The duration of treatment was 8 weeks. Results: The total clinical effective rate of the two groups after treatment was compared, the total clinical effective rate of the control group was 56.66%, the total clinical effective rate of the observation group was 96.66%, the total clinical effective rate of the control group was significantly lower than that of the observation group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After 8 weeks of treatment, blood lipid and blood glucose between the two groups were compared, and the observation group after treatment was lower than the control group. There was no significant difference in the calculation result of psychological function and material life between the two groups before treatment (P<0.05). After treatment, the quality of life of the two groups improved, but the improvement in quality of life before and after treatment in the observation group was significantly greater than that in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion: Aripiprazole combined with olanzapine has a significant clinical effect on elderly patients with schizophrenia, has a significant effect on improving glucose and lipid metabolism, and can improve the quality of life of patients with schizophrenia.
