Abstract:Objective: To investigate the miR-21 expression levels in gingival crevicular fluid and its correlation with MMP-9 levels in patients with aggressive periodontitis. Methods: 89 cases of aggressive periodontitis (case group) and 78 cases of health individuals in our hospital (control group) were selected. Then various indicators were detected, including expression levels of microRNA-21 and MMP-9 in gingival crevicular fluid, the plaque index, probing depth, clinical attachment loss and bleeding index. Results: The plaque index, probing depth, clinical attachment loss and bleeding index of the case group were higher than those of the control group (P<0.05); The levels of microRNA-21 and MMP-9 in gingival crevicular fluid of the case group were higher than those of the control group (P<0.05); miRNA-21 was positively correlated with plaque index, probing depth, clinical attachment loss, bleeding index and MMP-9 (P<0.01). Conclusion: The expression levels of microRNA-21 and MMP-9 in gingival crevicular fluid are positively correlated, which play an important role in the pathogenesis of aggressive periodontitis
