Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effects of comfortable nursing on the quality of care and cystospasm after transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Methods: Totally 200 eligible patients were selected and randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 100 patients in each group. The patients of both groups were given usual care, while the observation group given comfortable nursing additionally. The occurrences of postoperative cystospasm, degrees of comfort and qualities of care during hospital stay were compared. Results: The incidences of postoperative cystospasm of the observation group and the control group were 16.00% and 39.00%, respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=13.266, P<0.001). The patients of the observation group had significantly higher scores of simplified General Comfort Questionnaire (GOQ, Chinese version), including physiological, mental, psychic, social, cultural, and environmental dimensions, than those of the control group (P<0.05). The patients of the observation group had significantly higher scores of quality of care than those of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Comfortable nursing can effectively prevent from the occurrence of cystospasm after TURP, elevate the degree of comfort and improve the quality of care during hospital stay in BPH patients.
