Abstract:Objective: To observe the effects of folic acid on homocysteine level and atherosclerosis in elderly patients with H-type hypertension. Methods: 112 patients with H-type hypertension who were diagnosed and treated in our department from March 2015 to December 2015 were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group (56 cases). The patients in the control group were treated with routine antihypertensive therapy. The observation group was treated with folic acid on the basis of the control group. The effects of treatment on homocysteine level and atherosclerosis were compared between the two groups. Results: Compared with the control group, the total effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P <0.05). There was no significant difference in plasma Hcy, baPWV, SBP and DBP between the two groups before treatment (P> 0.05). The levels of plasma Hcy, baPWV, SBP and DBP in the two groups after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment (P <0.05). The decrease of the indexes of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P <0.05). Conclusion: The clinical application of folic acid in the treatment of elderly patients with H-type hypertension can significantly improve the clinical treatment efficiency, improve plasma Hcy levels and atherosclerosis state, reduce blood pressure, can be applied in clinical practice.
