Abstract:Objective: To explore the relationship between expression levels of serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE), S100B, and myelin basic protein (MBP) and disease severity in patients with glioma and the postoperative changes, to provide a reference for finding biological markers of glioma. Methods: 98 cases of patients with glioma were enrolled in the study group, and another 98 healthy examiners were used in the control group. Serum NSE, S100B, and MBP levels were compared before and after operation in the two groups, and their relationship with pathological grading and Karnofsky performance score (KPS) was analyzed. Results: The levels of serum NSE, S100B, and MBP in the study group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The levels of serum NSE, S100B, and MBP in the grade III group were significantly higher than those in the grade I-II group (P<0.05), and the levels of S100B and MBP in the grade IV group were significantly higher than those in grade III group and grade I-II group (P<0.05). The levels of serum NSE, S100B, and MBP in glioma patients were negatively correlated with preoperative KPS score (P<0.05). The levels of serum NSE, S100B, and MBP were increased first and then decreased before the operation, and at 1, 3, and 7 d after the operation (P<0.05), and the levels of serum NSE, S100B, and MBP at 1 and 3 d after operation were higher than those before operation (P<0.05), and the levels of serum NSE and S100B at 7 d after operation were lower than those before operation (P<0.05), and serum MBP level was higher than that before operation (P<0.05). Conclusion: The levels of serum NSE, S100B, and MBP in patients with glioma were significantly increased, and they were closely related to pathological grading, brain tissue damage, and therapeutic effect.
