Abstract:Objective: To analyze the relationship between resting heart rate (RHR) and metabolic syndrome (MS) in patients with hypertension. Methods: A total of 126 patients with essential hypertension admitted to the hospital from December 2016 to December 2018 were included in the study. According to whether patients with hypertension were complicated with MS, they were divided into simple hypertension group (n=72), hypertension with 1 item MS group (n=31) and hypertension with MS group (n=23). Age, gender, history of hypertension, BMI, waist circumference, resting heart rate and laboratory biochemical indicators [including fasting blood glucose (FBG), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), fasting insulin concentration (FINS), insulin resistance index (IR)] were compared among the three groups, and the risk factors affecting MS in hypertension were analyzed. Results: There were significant differences in the age, history of hypertension, BMI, waist circumference, RHR, FBG, TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C and IR among simple hypertension group, hypertension with 1 item MS group and hypertension with MS group (P<0.05), and there was no significant difference in the gender proportion among the three groups (P>0.05). Correlation analysis showed that RHR value was positively correlated with waist circumference, FBG, TG, LDL-C, FINS and IR in patients with hypertension (r=0.14, 0.13, 0.61, 0.45, 0.41, 0.54, 0.63, P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis suggested that waist circumference, RHR and IR were independent risk factors for hypertension with MS. Conclusions: Hypertensive patients with MS are closely related to IR, waist circumference and RHR. It is suggested that hypertensive patients exercise more to reduce abdominal fat and pay attention to regulating RHR, reduce insulin resistance index, so as to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
