Abstract:Objective: To explore the correlation between serum metal ions, vitamin B12 and the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Methods: Forty-six patients who met AD diagnostic criteria were selected as AD group, and Forty-five elderly patients with normal cognitive function at the same time were selected as control group. The contents of Cu, Zn, Fe, Pb, Cd, Ca, Mg and Mn in the two groups were compared. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the correlation between 8 kinds of metal ions, vitamin B12 and simple intelligent state scale (MMSE) score. Results: The concentration of copper ion in AD group was significantly higher than that in control group; Vitamin B12 content was significantly lower than the control group, the difference was statistically significant (t = 3.477,5.102, all P <0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that both copper ion, vitamin B12 content and age all contributed to the independent risk factors of MMSE score decline in AD patients (χ2= -0.256, 4.527, -0.328, all P <0.05). Conclusion: The levels of copper ion and vitamin B12 in elderly patients are related to AD, which are independent risk factors of AD.
