Abstract：Objective: To investigate the clinical effects of Wuzi Mingmu recipe combined with acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa (RP). Methods: 54 cases of RP patients (108 eyes) treated between June 2015 and June 2017 were divided into the treatment group and the control group by random number table method, each with 27 cases (54 eyes). The two groups were given western medicine, and the treatment group was given Wuzi Mingmu recipe combined with acupuncture and moxibustion on this basis. The clinical efficacy was compared in the two groups, and the visual field (mean light sensitivity, mean defect), hemorheology (whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, fibrinogen, erythrocyte aggregation index) and electroretinogram b wave (latency time, amplitude) were evaluated before treatment and after 8w of treatment. Results: After 8w of treatment, the clinical efficacy in the treatment group was better than that in the control group (P<0.05). After 8w of treatment, the mean light sensitivity of the two groups was significantly higher than that before treatment (P<0.05) while the mean defect was lower than that before treatment (P<0.05), and the change degree in the treatment group was higher that in the control group (P<0.05). After 8w of treatment, the hemorheology indexes (whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, fibrinogen, erythrocyte aggregation index), and the b wave latency times of dark adaptation and light adaptation in the treatment group were lower than those before treatment (P<0.05) and those in the control group at the same period (P<0.05) while the b wave amplitudes of dark adaptation and light adaptation were higher than those before treatment and in the control group at the same period (P<0.05), and there was no statistical significance in the levels of hemorheology indexes and the amplitude and latency time of b wave in the control group before and after treatment (P>0.05). Conclusions: Wuzi Mingmu recipe combined with acupuncture and moxibustion can have good efficacy in the treatment of RP, and it is beneficial to improve the visual acuity and visual field of patients.
