Abstract:Objective: Our study was aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of Vitapex paste and calcium hydroxide in the application of apexification after pulp necrosis in children, in order to provide scientific basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods: The clinical data of 94 patients of pulp necrosis and 100 families of teeth treated with apexification in our hospital from January 2015 to January 2017 were selected and the 100 families of teeth were randomly divided into vitapex group(n=50) and calcium hydroxide group(n=50 ). Vitapex paste and calcium hydroxide were used to apexification. Recheck the treatments in June and December and analyze the curative effects of the two groups. Results: After 6 months of treatment, the total effective rates of X-ray films in the vitapex group and the calcium hydroxide group were 92% (46/50) and 86% (43/50), and there was no statistical difference between the two groups (χ2=0.854, P= 0.356); the clinical indexes of vitapex group and calcium hydroxide group were 94% (47/50) and 90% (45/50) respectively, there was no significant difference between the two groups (χ2 = 0.544, P = 0.461); After 12 months of treatment, the total effective rate of X-ray film in Vitapex group was 90% (45/50), which was significantly higher than that of calcium hydroxide group (70% (35/50)), and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=6.250, P = 0.012). The total effective rate of clinical indicators in the Vitapex group was 92% (46/50), which was significantly higher than that of the calcium hydroxide group (72% (36/50)),and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=6.775, P=0.009 ); The incidence of EIP in the vitapex group during the treatment was 8% (4/50), which was significantly higher than that of the calcium hydroxide group (24% (12/50), and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=4.762, P=0.029). Conclusion: Vitapex paste is superior to calcium hydroxide in the long-term efficacy of apexification by pulpal necrosis in children.
