Abstract:Objective: To observe effects of two different treatment methods (percutaneous puncture and kyphoplasty) for patients with osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fracture (Osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fracture,OTCF). Methods: The selected study period was from January 2016 to October 2019. The 84 patients treated in this hospital who had OTCF were divided into observation group (n=42) and control group (n=42) by simple random grouping. For patients in the observation group, the treatment was percutaneous kyphoplasty, while for patients in the control group, percutaneous vertebroplasty was adopted. The overall efficiency,Barthel index and VAS pain score, the recovery of the anterior edge of the vertebral body, the amount of bone cement injection, and the leakage rate were compared. Results: The observation group's effective rate was (95.2%) higher than that of the control group(78.6%) (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups of patients in the Barthel index and VAS pain score before and half a year after the operation (P>0.05). The observation group had more bone cement injections, and the observation group had significantly lower bone cement leakage rate (P<0.05). The height of the anterior edge of the vertebral body and the Cobb s angle between the two groups of patients were compared. There was an interaction between groups and time (P<0.001),and the observation group had greater changes (P<0.001). The functional exercise time and functional recovery time of patients in the observation group were significantly shorter (P<0.05). Conclusion: In the treatment of OTCF patients, percutaneous kyphoplasty has certain advantages, especially in the effect of reduction.
