Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effects of low-dose and high-dose caffeine citrate on apnea frequency, related adverse reactions and clinical outcomes in premature infants with primary apnea. Methods: 128 children with primary apnea admitted to our hospital from January 2017 to December 2018 were randomly divided into two groups, 64 in each group. The control group was treated with low-dose caffeine citrate, while the observation group was treated with high-dose caffeine citrate. The therapeutic effects, adverse events and clinical outcomes of the two groups were compared. Result: The number of apnea in the observation group was significantly less than that in the control group, and the success rate of weaning and the effective rate of treatment were significantly higher than those in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (all P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the days of oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation between the two groups (all P>0.05). There was no significant difference in adverse reaction events between the two groups (P>0.05). There was no significant difference in the days of oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation between the two groups (all P>0.05). There was no significant difference in adverse reaction events between the two groups (P>0.05). There was no significant difference in clinical outcomes between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: When the initial dose of caffeine citrate is 20 ms/kg and the daily maintenance dose is 15 ms/kg, the therapeutic effect of caffeine citrate on primary apnea of premature infants is remarkable.
