Abstract:Objectives: To explore the effect on the primary caretaker of patients with paraplegia due to traumatic spinal cord injury by individual continued-nursing care. Methods: The 86 patients with paraplegia due to traumatic spinal cord injury and the primary caretaker were selected and divided into two equal groups, treatment and control groups, randomly. The trial group was received intervening by individual continued-nursing care and the control group was intervened by routine nursing care. The ZBI and SF-36 scales were used to evaluate the interventions. Results: There were no significant statistical difference between two groups in physical data, caring burden and quality of life scores before intervening (p>0.05). The caring-burden of trial group was lower than control group after intervening and meanwhile the quality of life was greater than control group. There was significant statistical difference in comparison of the above items between two groups (p<0.01). Conclusions: The caring-burden can be reduced and the quality of life can be improved by individual continued-nursing care of project for the primary caretaker of patients with paraplegia due to traumatic spinal cord injury.
