Abstract：Objective: To research the effect of onlay mesh hernioplasty on pain and the process of rehabilitation for elder patients with indirect inguinal hernia. Methods: 100 cases of elderly inguinal hernia treated in our hospital from Jan. 2016 to Nov. 2017 were selected and divided into two groups by random number table. 50 cases in the control group were filled with tension free herniorrhaphy. In the observation group, 50 cases were treated with onlay mesh hernioplasty. The operative time, intraoperative blood loss, hospitalization time, treatment cost, pain degree (VAS score), postoperative complications, recurrence and quality of life score were recorded. Results: After operation, the VAS scores of one day and 3 days in observation group were lower than those in control group (P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the time of operation, the amount of bleeding and the time of hospitalization in the two groups(P＞0.05). The treatment cost of the observation group was significantly lower than the control group(P<0.05). 3 months after the operation, the scores of the quality of life in the observation group were lower than the control group(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications and recurrence rate between the two groups(P＞0.05). Conclusion: The treatment of elderly inguinal hernia by flat patch tension-free herniorrhaphy can effectively relieve the pain of the patients, promote rehabilitation, improve the quality of life, reduce the cost of treatment, and have fewer complications and recurrence. It is worthy of clinical application.
